Voicethreads

I really enjoyed this session on voicethreads. It was something entirely new for me. It was interesting to view some examples of how other teachers were using voicethreads in their teaching. I think I am going to try and motivate book discussions with my ESOL families by utilizing the voicethread. Many of my parents are not participating in our oral presentations. I think they are not comfortable speaking in a large group setting. Allowing them to use a voicethread to discuss/comment on the books they are reading might be a more comfortable setting for them.

  1. Did you try this out? It seemed like you had a good group of parents in your ESOL after school group. Let us know!

  2. Yes, I tried it and they loved it. I wish I had started one of these sooner as it was a great way for me to model book discussions. The voicethread has a mix of comments - most in English but a few in Spanish. I wanted the parents to respond in the language that was comfortable for them and no one was excluded due to a language barrier. Parents and students enjoyed listening to each other's comments and were able to scaffold language chunks to participate in a book discussion and make their own comments.
